Aramean Genocide

(Sometimes it is falsely called,, Assyrian Genocide”)

Dutch Version

Dimensions of the Aramean Genocide

Talking about the genocide which was committed by the Turks and Kurds on the Christians in the former Ottoman Empire; only the Armenian genocide gets the international attention. Unfortunately, not only Armenians, but also Arameans (who are different than Armenians) of Mesopotamia have suffered under this horrible genocide which unfortunately is less known to the world. That is probably the reason that sometimes the Aramean genocide is being confused with the Armenian Genocide.

The Aramean Genocide consist out of two dimensions, namely the Physical and spiritual Genocide. In contrast with the Armenians, the Aramean genocide started not in 1915, but much earlier, around 16th century whereby the Turks tried to exterminate the name of this people from the earth. The climax of extermination however, was reached in 1915.

The second dimension of the Aramean genocide started with the coming of the Western missionaries to the Middle-East at the beginning of 16th century through which the Arameans were divided in various denominations with the result that they were weakened and made vulnerable to their hostile environment where ,,the law of the sword” is used.
